If this is the case, then offer answers that steer the conversation toward a more neutral topic.
However, if the contractor insists on asking questions that take a jab at your marital status or your living arrangements, immediately take that as a red flag. A contractor that doesn’t know how to ask tactful questions is someone you don’t want to work with.
